Barnsley First Independent Group is a community-rooted, independent group focused entirely on Barnsley and its people.

Local politics is exactly what it says — local. It is about working at ground level, taking residents’ concerns directly to the Town Hall and making decisions that reflect the real needs of our town and villages. It is very different from national party politics, where decisions are often made far away, with little understanding of how they affect people locally.

We exist to take national party politics out of local decision making and put residents back at the heart of how our borough is run.

Our candidates are independent, accountable and free from party control. That means no party whips, no imposed voting lines and no instructions from elsewhere. It allows our representatives to listen properly, ask difficult questions and act solely in the best interests of local people.

We are ordinary residents who care deeply about Barnsley, its communities and its future. We work together across different views and backgrounds, united by a shared belief that Barnsley deserves honest leadership, clear decisions and genuine respect for the people who live here.
